We Don't Care

Fikr karo e Hindustan valo, Musibat aane wali hai

Tumhari barbadio ke mashvare hai aasmano mein

Na sambhloge to mit jaoge, tumhari daastan tak bhi na hogi daastano mein.

These lines of Kavi Iqbal are apt for the present condition of our country. It seems to be that the entire nation is on local anaesthisia. Even animals are sensitive and concerned if any harm is being done to them or their family but people in country are untouched and unmoved by the bureaucrats and political termites eating up everything making the entire country socially, economically, ethically and morally hollow and we don’t care. I think we have forgot that country is not an entity in isolation it is the collectivism of people like you and me, so ultimately we are being eaten up but we don’t care. A 71 year old activist was fasting for the sake of us to fight corruption but we don’t care. Praying for Anna Hazare or sending mails and SMSs in his support is something which I will call an active cowardice. For someone else’s wrong doing I should keep fast to make them realize that what they are doing is not correct, this brings out the real pathetic and helpless situation of democracy in our country. This is by no means a democracy, this is extortion, this is organized crime by the self proclaimed public servants but we don’t carew. Another pitiable situation is that we care about cricket so much that the amount worth crores in the form of money and property is given away by the government forgetting the fact that its not their money its our money. It’s like somebody else is spending our money wherever they wish and we don’t care. How many of us remember when our hockey team had played world cup finals. In a democratic country where we talk of equality how these actions are justifiable. Declaring a public holiday on the day of cricket match costing a loss of lakhs of man hours and crores of rupees but we don’t care. The ministers who are for the people, of the people and by the people comes and says publicaly that the price of sugar will not decrease and people will not die if they will not eat sugar, it’s a shame on us that we have such ministers ruling us but we don’t care. Finally a day will come when our coming generations will question us that why did you spoiled our future why you were on anesthesia, then we will have only one answer that we did’nt care.

Global warming

Who will stop it????
Even though the problem is at the global level but statistics confirm that small steps towards energy conservation and waste reduction can cause a drastic change in the levels of the green house gases emitted in the atmosphere. Just to state some examples like. • Each time you choose a compact fluorescent light bulb aver an incandescent bulb you will lower your energy bill and can keep nearly 700 pounds of co2 out of the air over the bulb’s life time. • By opting for a refrigerator with an Energy star label you can reduce co2 pollution by a ton in total. • Drive smart, avoid hard accelerations, reduce time spent idling • Switch off your engines at signals with more than 15 seconds • Keep your car well tuned. A well maintained car is more fuel efficient, reliable and safer. • When buying a new vehicle look for the Air Pollution and Greenhose Gas Scores.Check tire pressure regularly. • Give your car a break, try to combine activities into a single trip; walk or bike whenever possible. These and hundreds of such ideas which we can easily implement without any extra effort of money can help a lot but the question is will we do it. If we are not the part of the solution than we are precipitate. Every small step can make a difference. We can no more live with the same human attitude that this cannot happen during my lifetime so why to worry. The bad has already started and the worst is only left. My question is “If not now when? If not we than who?” There is one proverb in English which says “It’s never too late to start anything” but here we are already late and if still we don’t wake up there would be no point in starting up. There are many ways where an individual can contribute but the question is when will we start. I don’t know the reactions after reading this article. Most probably the results are known, you will get motivated, you might even persuade others then you will realize that nobody is bothered so what alone can you do so you will also join the precipitate group. I call this syndrome “short term enthusiasm loss”. But one things is for sure the generations to come will always look at as culprits and will always ask the question, “ Why didn’t you save the earth when you could really do it, why did you spoiled our future for your present, to which we could only remain dumb and repent, repent and repent.
